Father Thierry Brac de la Perrière, chaplain for the communities in the region was consecrated auxiliary bishop with another young priest, Hervé Giraud. Having only just turned 43, Monsignor Thierry is the youngest Bishop in France today.Twenty-two bishops accompanied by the apostolic nuncio representing John Paul II, a crowded Primatial, giant screens erected in the four corners, all the Faith and Light communities of the region.. The ceremony was magnificent, meditative and sober , but humour and emotion were also present! The offertory procession was composed uniquely of Faith and Light members, preceded by banners. In the middle of the ceremony a young man with an intellectual disability serving at the mass, could no longer hold out any longer and ran up to Thierry to embrace him and hug him for a long moment. The assembly was overtaken by emotion at this sign of spontaneity and affection. There was also great emotion when Thierry received the crook from Monsignor Decourtray! Then there were laughter and smiles when Monsignor Barbarin, Arch Bishop of Lyon straightened up the mitre on our new bishop’s head under a thunder of applause! In his expression of thanks, Thierry made a large space for Faith and Light : “… I have been the diocesan chaplain of Faith and Light for 18 years. It is you in reality, the ‘poor in spirit’ of the Beatitudes who have accompanied me! You have given me a great deal and I will remain your friend…” We wish you well Thierry! We wanted to give you our heart felt thanks and tell you how much we love you. Biography of Monsignor Thierry Brac de la Perrière (in French) |
