8 - 13 September : International Council, Trosly-Breuil, France

The International Council of Faith and Light met at Trosly, from Friday 8th to Saturday 13th September 2003. It is with great joy that I am giving you the first news, which I am sure you are expecting!

First of all, the discernment of the international chaplain : Following the consultations these last few months , in all your countries, and the process of discernment followed by the International Council at Trosly, Father Joseph Larsen has accepted, with the agreement of his congregation, a new mandate as international chaplain for a period of two years.

Alleluia! It is a great joy to us all that father Joseph has accepted to pursue his mission, May he continue, particularly, to encourage each member in deepening the gift of Faith and Light in the community and in his/her daily life.

Moreover, the International Council has elected Ghislain du Chéné continental coordinator for the Africa-Indian Ocean continent. In the strength of the Lord, with a missionary spirit and a small team in the accompaniment of this large and beautiful continent, may Ghislain give the best of himself in his new responsibility.

Let us give thanks to the Lord, and let us pray especially for Father Joseph, for Ghislain, the continent of « Africa-Indian Ocean » and for all the coordinators and chaplains who have been called to carry new responsibilities during these last months…

Ceeli Hosrburgh (Scotland)
Coordintor for the continent :''Europe North and East''

Roland Tamraz (Lebanon)coordinatorfor the continent ''Europe Middle-East''(betwenn Marie-Hélène Mathieu, founder, and Bella Feliciano, coordinator of the
continent ''Asia Southern Cross'').

At Trosly, during these few days, we have taken a « world tour », in order to take part in the joys, the cares and the priorities of each of your zones… And it really seems, that everywhere, where the continental assemblies or the continental councils have already come to life, there is a certain wisdom in our new structures ! In fact the continental reality has begun to live, the feeling of belonging to a continent has begun to be experienced and is a source of joy! Alleluia!

After a year of transition and beginnings since Rome, the International Council is beginning, little by little, to find its rhythm… It has taken its time with Bob Brooke and Ann Gibson, to reflect on Ecumenism in Faith and Light and on the importance of growing together in our openness and our desire for unity.

Other news will be communicated to you later by your zone coordinator, who will receive the complete minutes of this meeting, but you must know already that you have been really present in our work, in our hearts and in our prayer.

To finish off these several items of news, I should like to tell you of my joy at being able to be present in your name, with several members of the International Council, at the celebration of Jean Vanier’s birthday, prepared by the Trosly l’Arche community. This festive occasion was a fervent thanksgiving for Jean’s life. A moment of wonder in front of the mystery of the little and poor ones who touched the heart of John and became the treasures of his life.

During the Eucharist which closed this moving celebration, I felt privileged to have been able to pray close beside Loïc. Loïc is also our founder! He seemed so happy, confident and peaceful. In your name, I thanked him not only for himself and his life, but also for his parents, Camille and Gérard, and his brother Thaddée, who are already in Heaven. We owe them so much… Yes, that day, I felt that Heaven was close to Earth… and that at l’Arche and in Faith and Light, Jesus was continuing to entrust us with treasures which reveal the secrets of his heart, so full of tenderness!

Close to you in Jesus, with my love,

Viviane
